The mission of University Housing & Residence Life ( UHRL) is to provide a unique living experience in Portland’s urban environment through actively engaged residential communities that promote student success. University Housing & Residence Life serves 1,800 residents in seven buildings. Summer Housing & Conference generates over $1 million in revenue, hosting about 45 groups and oversees a large intern-housing program : https://www.pdx.edu/housing/

Position Summary
The Assistant Director for Summer Housing & Conferences oversees and manages all aspects of the Summer Conference Housing Program. The position includes:
  • Responsible for the overall operations of conference housing including but not limited to: contracts and records management, fiscal processes, and office operations.
  • Oversee an intern housing program, providing long-term stays to interns in the Portland area.
  • Work with group leaders to determine the needs of groups, and determine if and how SHC can accommodate them. Provide excellent customer service and track all communication with groups.
  • Lead the Summer Housing & Conferences Team, which includes the Accounts Coordinator, Operations Coordinator, Interns, and Student Staff.
  • Recruit, hire and supervise Interns to support the summer operational needs.
  • Serve on the UHRL Leadership Team, and engage in projects and work as needed to support the mission of the department.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Four or more years of professional experience working in university housing and residence life or conference housing.
  • Supervision experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range of problems that may commonly occur in the area of conference housing or student housing administration.
  • Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of conference housing and student housing.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in higher education, business, hospitality, or other related industry.
  • Experience using StarRez software.

Salary is dependent on several factors, and new employees will typically start around the Q1 level to allow for later growth within the salary band. PSU has a structured process for determining starting compensation, taking into account years of related experience, applicable skills, knowledge and abilities, market parity, and internal equity.

The starting annual salary for this position will be between $59,556 and $68,952, but may be negotiated above this range dependent upon the factors above, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR.
