Responsibilities

Exercises engineering judgment for planning, organizing, controlling, integrating, and completing engineering projects within KC Water's sanitary sewer and combined sewer collection systems as part of the Smart Sewer Program by performing the following duties: Project Management - Projects can range from thousands to millions of dollars in size with multiple concurrent projects. Includes general project management responsibilities, including establishing and recommending project scopes, budget, and schedule. Provides construction phase representation, including coordination between contractor and operations and maintenance staff, alter proposal recommendations when necessary, and assist with start-up of new or reconstructed facilities. Frequently consults and collaborates with internal divisions, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders as required in the preparations of engineering reports, design plans, specifications, bidding documents for projects, and construction phase oversight, and inspection of construction work for compliance with prescribed engineering criteria. Provides technical review, for the Program Consultant Team and Smart Sewer Division Head and/or Utility Officer in key focus areas, including: Hydraulic Modeling, Private Inflow/Infiltration Program, Green Stormwater Infrastructure, and Regulatory Compliance. Reviews regulatory compliance reports and documentation to meet requirements of the Smart Sewer Program Federal Consent Decree.


Qualifications

REQUIRES an ABET accredited Bachelor's degree in any professionally recognized architectural/engineering discipline as required by the hiring authority. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City. Preference given to applicants with an degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering and successfully passing the FE exam and/or experience working on the design of construction projects involving water, wastewater or linear asset infrastructure projects.
