Located in the northern panhandle of Idaho, Bonner County, (pop. approx. 43,000), is known for its magnificent lakes, stunning mountains, vast forests, and vibrant communities. Sandpoint, with a population of just over 8,300, is the county seat and the largest city in the county. Sandpoint is nestled between three mountain ranges, offering year-round outdoor recreation.
Bonner County’s Technology Department manages three primary areas: Public Safety Technology, Communications, and Information Technology. The IT Team manages the network and computer assets of the county. The IT team supports all the county users of technology with technical support and administers and operates the technology helpdesk system. The IT Team is responsible for the back-office assets of the county, which includes networks and internet access, servers, routers, switches and network storage. The IT Team also manages the security, access, and credentials of authorized users of the network.
Under general supervision of the Chief Information Officer, the Network Engineer will design, support, and manage a wide range of county network and technology infrastructure and enterprise services. The incumbent will help ensure that the County’s systems and infrastructure are designed and implemented to the highest security standards and best practices while performing at optimal levels. This position performs technical security assessments and vulnerability testing to highlight risk and remediate associated findings to help improve security and works closely with other technical staff members to design, build, and enhance the County’s security posture.
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, work and experience in computer science or a related field. 7 years of network infrastructure support in an enterprise environment. 5 years of experience in enterprise LAN/WAN network design, engineering, configuration, and support. 5 years of experience in firewall and network/security devices, configuration, monitoring and support. 3 years of experience in virtualization technology.
